In the first racing season of 2014, Garrison Savannah will once again host the prestigious Sandy Lane Gold Cup.  Organised by The Barbados Turf Club this historic event will take place on Saturday March 8th and as expected there is already a lot of hype surrounding the event.  

With 10 races spread out through the day its a good idea to get to course before midday to ensure a good spot.  The carnival like atmosphere builds throughout the day leading up to the late afternoon main event (usually 16.30).  The 1800 meter (9 furlong) race is the most prestigious horse racing event in the Caribbean with horse owners & trainers coming from all over the Caribbean and even the USA to compete.

With a total purse prize of over $214,000 for the single race you can see why this event is such a big deal.  Last years 2/1 favourite, Aristodemus (ridden by A Trotman) took home the $120,000 1st place prize, with him being selected again for this years event theres no question as to who my money is on!

Admission for the event is as follows:

Sponsors Lounge – $50.00 (subject to availability)

Grandstand (Gold) – $75.00

Entrance to the grounds – $50.00

All prices are quoted in Barbados $ inclusive of VAT.

The dress code for the event is mainly casual, unless your in one of the members/sponsors lounge where smart trousers and a shirt are required.

Overall this event is a great day out for the whole family, offering fantastic entertainment coupled with a totally unique atmosphere that gives holiday makes and locals the chance to interact and have fun on this special occasion.
